ACCIDENT

I cannot stand

that this happens

so goddamn often.

Whose accident matters more?

There are a million inescapable potholes

for a person from the global majority

to get wrecked in

on these colonial roads.

When you’re a target

there is the possibility of accident

at every turn

and no permission

for regret.

These cops are supposed to be trained

to prevent destruction

and keep the peace.

They cannot claim their actions are accidents

or failures of instruction.

They are accountable, negligent

and racist police.

I have compassion and hear each side

and understand mistakes are made

but at this scale and frequency

these accidents are genocide.
